Supervisors to proclaim week to recognize the contributions of counties 4/3/2008
On an average day, probably only a small number of folks stop to consider how many times they interact with their local county government. That’s reasonable. Most county services are designed to be transparent to the public in their success.
On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors is set help raise awareness of the role of county government by proclaiming April 6 to April 12 as National County Government Week in Solano County.
“Solano County is proud of the variety of services it provides to the community,” said Supervisor John Silva, Chair of the Board of Supervisors. “National County Government Week is a great opportunity for the public to take a closer look at what we do, how we do it, and the people behind the services we provide.”
The National Association of Counties established National County Government Week in 1991 to raise public awareness and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the 3,066 counties across the country.
The following statistics give a glimpse at the services provided each year by the nearly 3,000 Solano County employees:
• 1.9 million visitors to eight County branch libraries
