Widening of the Ulatis Creek Bridge, scheduled to begin Monday, will take about seven months to complete and reduce traffic from four lanes to two - one in each direction.
The project involves widening the bridge on Monte Vista Avenue on both sides. According to a city statement, "the work is being done to bring the bridge up to current standards and improve the level of service in the intersection."
The job involves driving new piles, extending pile caps, wing walls, abutments and pier walls, and other work within the creek itself. In addition to the bridge widening, about 140 feet of roadway approaching the bridge on Monte Vista Avenue will also be widened.
Crews will also make improvements to a left-turn lane to accommodate more traffic and construct a right turn lane on northbound Dobbins Street, according to the city statement. They will put in an additional left turn lane on southbound Dobbins to improve traffic flow.
New sidewalks, curbs and gutters will be installed on Monte Vista and Dobbins as part of the project, and modifications to signal poles will accommodate new turning movements.
Work is expected to continue through October.
