For the sixth consecutive year, Solano County has earned a Certificate of Achievement in Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.
The award is for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2007.
"The certificate of excellence has become our standard," said Auditor-Controller Simona Padilla-Scholtens.
"To keep winning the award, the county has to track and implement a significant number of accounting changes each year as well as proactively deal with a myriad of fiscal matters."
The county's financial report was judged on its ability to meet the high GFOA standards, including demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users to read the document. The financial report also satisfied generally accepted accounting principles and all applicable legal requirements.
"This award is a tremendous accolade for the county's strong accounting procedures, prudent fiscal policies, professional accounting staff, and willingness to be very proactive in tackling short- and long-term fiscal issues," Padilla-Scholtens said.
The GFOA describes the award as the "highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its fiscal management."
