SUISUN CITY - The Salvation Army is the top choice of the Suisun City Council to run the former YMCA facility on Wigeon Way.
The Suisun City Council made its announcement Tuesday night after a closed session on who the council wants to run the youth, family and senior programs at the former Y.
'The Salvation Army is much more than bell ringers during the Christmas holidays and service providers to the homeless and other people in crisis,' Suisun City Manager Suzanne Bragdon said.
'Their services are far-reaching and include the operation of more than 360 community recreation facilities similar to what is being proposed in Suisun City. They will be a welcome addition to our community,' Bragdon said.
A council ad hoc committee and a citizen's advisory committee pegged the Salvation Army as the leading contender based on how well it runs programs in more than 360 recreation centers across the country.
They were impressed with The Salvation Army's commitment to provide a safe, fun environment for children; flexibility in programming and membership rates; a wide base of financial support; and a reputation for enduring high-quality programs.
