SUISUN CITY - An upscale live entertainment venue on Suisun City's waterfront could be open as early as July 1 now that its owner has the blessing of the Suisun City Planning Commission.

The only concerns the commission raised during a Tuesday night special public hearing involved what types of music would be performed and how owner Demetrius Mance would handle youth-oriented events.

Residents appearently don't mind the idea of having such a business on Main Street since the public hearing was held in a nearly empty city council chamber.

Mance wants to open up a live entertainment lounge called Demitri's Lounge by the Bay in part of Harbor Square at the corner of Main and Solano streets next to the yet-to-open Cast Iron Grill & Bar.

Mance described his venture as one that will offer a place for local and regional jazz, R&B, blues, salsa and country/western groups to perform.

Commissioners added provisions that certain types of music such as rap and acid rock not be allowed and that any change of usage be subject to planning commission review.

'It will be a safe environment where you can relax and listen to some light music,' Mance said, agreeing with the restriction.

Mance also wants to include poetry readings, youth nights, dance lessons and senior entertainment activities.
