SUISUN CITY - Long years of searching for a home may be finally over for the Solano History Exploration Center.
Suisun City is rolling out the welcome mat for the group of historians and educators. Their plan is to set up historical exhibits at Main Street's Lawler House.
The details have yet to be worked out, but both the city and the center are hoping to have a presence in the historic building by late summer.
'I think it is a heck of an opportunity,' said Jane Day, Suisun City Councilwoman and center member. 'We are a pretty old city and it is a heck of an idea.'
The opportunity comes at a good time for the group because recently it was approved for nonprofit status after nearly two years of work.
The idea pleases City Hall because it coincides with its effort to bring more people to the waterfront. The exhibits will give visitors the opportunity to learn about the town and the area's heritage.
And center members like it because it gives them a way to get their name out, generate a buzz and possibly expand history programs.
