Library Launches E-Cards

Solano County Library has a way to get a library card without physically visiting the library. In an age when research and information seeking is largely an online pursuit, the library’s new e-cards allow users to use the library without walking through the doors.

At the library’s Web site, www.solanolibrary.com, a user can have an e-card delivered via email after providing name, address, phone number, and birth year. The e-card provides immediate access to electronic resources like databases, articles, and tutorials and it is a quick way for new users to reserve items before making their first visit to the library.

In order to check out materials in person, an e-card may be upgraded to a full-access library card by visiting any of the libraries in the Solano Napa and Partners Library Consortium (SNAP) and presenting valid identification and proof of address. Customers under the age of 18 must also provide parental consent in order to obtain a full-access library card. Due to licensing restrictions for the library’s electronic resources, only residents of Solano or Napa counties can sign up for an e-card. Users who already have a full access library card do not need to sign up for an e-card.
