'IMAX' to invade Fairfield theater complex

FAIRFIELD - Coming soon to a theater near you will be a 'bigger, better' movie experience.
Regal Entertainment Group announced plans Friday to bring 'The IMAX Experience' to Edwards Theatres at Westfield Solano mall. Russ Nunley, the company's vice president of marketing and communications, said the IMAX theater is expected to open by the end of the year.
'Our design team and construction crew are working together to make it happen,' Nunley said in a telephone interview from Regal Entertainment Group's corporate offices in Knoxville, Tenn.
One 'auditorium,' as Nunley described it, in Edwards Theatres will be converted into 'The IMAX Experience.' A larger screen will be installed, and the seats will be moved closer to the screen 'to enhance the moviegoer's field of vision. The vision encompasses the auditorium.'
'The IMAX Experience' in Fairfield will be unique, Nunley said, because the theater will be among the first to use Regal's new digital projection system.
'It's a new format and it's picture perfect each and every time. With celluloid, over time it can have flaws,' Nunley said. 'Fairfield will be getting the latest, state-of-the-art technology.'
Regal's decision to bring 'The IMAX Experience' to Fairfield stemmed from the success of Edwards Theatres, which Nunley described as a 'terrific facility.'
