City creates “Green Team”

The City of Fairfield has created a “Green Team” of staff from all departments to focus the City’s efforts in the area of “green.” Specifically, the City is looking at practices and programs the City can execute that are environmentally friendly. The City is also looking at programs and practices it could implement to promote green practices by our residents and the business community.

The City of Fairfield already engages in “green practices” through various recycling practices, limited green purchasing and water conservation efforts. The team’s initial goal is to create a report which will identify actions the City can take to execute a comprehensive green program initiative. Stay tuned to the City’s
Web site for future information on the City’s Green Team.

Strategies for success in a recession
The City is working to help the Fairfield business community prosper in these tough economic times. To assist
manufacturers, the City is cosponsoring a regional summit targeting manufacturers and the companies in their
supply chain. The Solano County Manufacturing Summit will be held Tuesday, May 5 from 7:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfield. Speakers include Charles Corbett, a professor at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, who will present “Back to Basics: Strategies for Success in Managing Small Business Operation”; Bill Browne from the Corporation for Manufacturing Excellence (Manex) presenting Five Strategies for Manufacturers to Grow Profitability”; and a speaker from the accounting firm of Moss Adams to present “R&D Tax Credit and Other Financial Strategies.”

Following the presentations, the speakers will participate in a panel discussion entitled, “Financing Resources and Access to Capital for Manufacturers.”

Attendees will learn key concepts in strategy, operations management, and essential manufacturing resources
available to increase profitability and productivity during a recession. The audience will have an opportunity to interact with the experts during the program and afterwards.

The event is presented by the City of Fairfield, Manex Consulting (www.manexconsulting.com), the Solano
Economic Development Corporation (www.solanoedc.org), MossAdams LLP (www.mossadams.com) and
the UCLA Anderson School of Management (www.anderson.ucla.edu).

The cost to participate is $20 per person. A continental breakfast will be served. To reserve your space, go to

Changes to City Web site, newsletter

The City will be transitioning to a new Web site this fall. The site will offer several new interactive features and it will be much easier for residents and businesses to find information.

This summer, the City will post its Observer newsletter on the City’s Web site instead of mailing it to residents. This was done to offer an interactive electronic newsletter and to eliminate printing and mailing
costs. The electronic version will enable the City to provide audio and video clips, online presentations and much more.
