City of Fairfield Lands Two New Retailers
East Bay Business Times - by Marie-Anne Hogarth

The city of Fairfield announced Friday that two major retailers will open store there later this year: the hardware and garden supply retailer Orchard Supply Hardware and the office supply company Staples Inc.

OSH, of San Jose, will open a 51,969-square-foot location in July at 1500 Oliver Road at Travis Boulevard, close to Interstate 80. The building was vacant for two years and had previously been occupied by Yardbirds, the Petaluma-based chain that was acquired by the national home improvement retailer Home Depot Inc. (NYSE: HD). OSH plans to hire between 50 and 70 employees, according to city officials.

Also, Staples Inc., which has more than 2,000 stores worldwide, is set to open in June a 20,390-square-foot location nearby at 1200 Oliver Road, close to the West Texas Street off-ramp of I-80.

Basil Christopoulos, president of C & H Scottsdale & Highland LLC in Walnut Creek redeveloped the site formerly occupied by Ford of Fairfield, which moved to the Fairfield AutoMall. Another 4,660-square-foot building with a drive-through is on the site and will include a 7-Eleven store and one one other tenant.
