FAIRFIELD - Reconstruction of a long-closed road that once linked Fairfield and Vallejo is receiving a boost from the $787 billion federal stimulus package.
The $2.5 million McGary Road reconstruction project is getting $1 million in stimulus money. McGary Road fronts Interstate 80 and runs 4 miles from the Cordelia Villages area of Fairfield to Hiddenbrooke Parkway.
A 2-mile section in Fairfield city limits has been closed for a decade because of pavement damage.
The road provides an emergency access route in case of a freeway accidents. It also is a missing link to a bike route between Fairfield and Vallejo.
Work is to begin this summer and be finished by October.
