Vacaville gets city-owned radio station

VACAVILLE - Vacaville became a two-radio-station town again earlier this week when the city of Vacaville put its own station on the air.
What was originally intended as an emergency station is now airing public service announcements on public safety, where to sign up for recreation programs and inducements to shop in Vacaville.
Vacaville Chamber of Commerce members got to hear the station's broadcast Friday when city officials tuned to the station's frequency at 530 AM.
'Our goal is to expand it and reach out to local organizations,' Vacaville Public Information Officer Mark Mazzaferro said.
The idea for a city radio station was first made public in June 2008 at a city council budget study session.
Public safety officials wanted the radio station in order to be able to broadcast emergency messages in case of disaster.
