Stimulus to fund fixes to some Fairfield roads

FAIRFIELD - Federal stimulus money will pay for improvements to Gateway Boulevard, East Tabor Avenue and McGary Road and upgrade several city buses.
The Fairfield City Council voted Tuesday to support spreading nearly $6 million over a handful of local projects, with an additional $2 million possible.
'These are your tax dollars coming back to you,' said Mayor Harry Price.
The biggest expenses on the list are about $1 million each to install new fare boxes on buses and cleaner engines on nine of the fleet. The city will also spend about $1 million to rebuild McGary Road next to Interstate 80 between Red Top Road and Lynch Road, add large shoulders and install bike route signs.
The remainder of the money will go to repaving Gateway Boulevard between Pennsylvania Avenue and Travis Boulevard, repaving East Tabor Avenue between Villa Court and Walters Road and replacing one aging bus.
If additional money becomes available, Fairfield wants to spend it on replacing two more buses, repaving Walters Road between East Tabor Avenue and Air Base Parkway and repaving Suisun Valley Road between Mangels Boulevard and the city limits.
