The Western Railway Museum in rural Solano County will take advantage of what is shaping up to be a stellar wildflower display next month, offering 10-mile journeys with sweeping views of pasture and farmland, Mount Diablo and Suisun Marsh, all splashed with colorful poppies, goldfields, brass buttons, vetch and sheep's sorrel. The former Sacramento Northern coach car will pull a 1914 Salt Lake and Utah Railway observation parlor car carrying first-class passengers lolling in overstuffed chairs and served by uniformed attendants. Departures may be delayed but are rarely canceled by rain.

Vitals: Saturdays and Wednesdays, April 3-28, 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. First come, first served. Coach tickets free with museum admission ($10 adults, $9 seniors, $7 children 2-14); extra $5 for parlor car. 5848 State Highway 12, Suisun City. (707) 374-2978, http://www.wrm.org/.
